Mark & Ina      
Mark, teaching Tango in Cape Town since middle 1990s, invited Ina to partner him for

 

 

 

TANGO DEL FUEGO and she began studying the dance in November 2000. After the success of that show, (Tango del Fuego won the Best Dance & Movement Production award at KKNK, Oudtshoorn in 2001 and Mark was nominated for a Fleur du Cap award for Best Contribution to a Musical), Ina began teaching and performing with Mark on a regular basis. Mark & Ina have taught in Johannesburg, Durban, Windhoek, Polokwane & Barrydale. They combine tenderness, form and musicality in their improvised Tango performances.
They performed on eTVs Backstage, for  the C T Festival 2003 & 2004, CT Fashion Festival 2003, for the Dutch Royal Wedding celebrations in Cape Town, MNET's MultiChoice Africa Conference 2005 and many other corporate, private and charity events around South Africa. In 2004 they were the Lead Dance Couple in MARIA DE BUENOS AIRES (National Arts Festivals Tour), performed TANGO SALON (2004) and THE TANGO EXPERIENCE (2005) at the BankWindhoek Arts Festivals in Namibia .
Mark& Ina also performed in “TANGO” in Port Elizabeth for the Association for the Physically Disabled 2004 & 2005,  “ALL you ever wanted to know ABOUT TANGO,but were too afraid to ask” at 2005 ABSA KKNK Festival and at the opening of Karoolkie's Kelder, in Barrydale in 2006.They recently performed at the Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards in Artscape's Theatre, premiered a new work about tango for the Main Programme of the  Baxter Dance Festival and performed 12 times in 1 weekend at the Darling Voorkamer Festival in Aug/Sep.

Ina Wichterich
Ina is a Ballet and Contemporary dancer, trained in Dance and Theatre in 
Rotterdam, who performed with  the world-famous Pina Bausch Dance Theatre Company
& other European dance companies before moving  to South Africa. She began teaching
for JAZZART DANCE THEATRE and has become a vital and integral part of the team as
teacher and as choreographer assisting on “Rain On a dead Man’s footprints”, “Guardian
of  the Flame” & “Cargo”. She headed up the 2004 Klipfontein Corridor Project launch.
In Jazzart's Danscape 2005 she premiered a collaborative work called “Ubuhle Bemvelo'
with 20 dancers from Jazzart, La Rosa, CAFDA, Dance For All & the Wilvan School of
Dance. For Baxter Dance Festival  2005 & 2006 she choreographed “I can't give you
anything but love” and a 2nd piece on the Remix Dance Theatre, a company with
able-bodied and disabled dancers and choreographed ALTYD JONKER for the major
festivals. Feb 2006 saw Ina, her husband,  Owen Manamela and their daughter, Bontle,
appearing with Mark in Marthinus Basson's PULCINELLA at Spier Summer Art's Festival


Mark Hoeben
Mark, a trained actor (UCT Drama) and Ballroom & Latin-American dancer &
teacher (London), has enjoyed a 21 year professional career as actor, dancer and
director ranging from formal Shakespeare to pantomime, from groundbreaking Afrikaans
theatre like Piekniek By Dingaan to Berkoff’s “Greek” & “From My Point of View”. Amongst his highlights are performing in the
Market Theatre’s “Take The Floor”, in 1995 at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and  a 7 week season in Montreal , Canada , teaching Rowan Atkinson (Mr Bean) to dance in London, performing a trapeze act & 12 ot her dancing  characters in “I DO, Times 22”  with Jennie Reznek(for which he won Fleur du Cap best Supporting Actor award) & , most recently, playing a dying Boer general in Reza de Wet’s “Breathing In”. In 2005 he played GOD in Cape Town Opera's new production of FAUST and in May 2009 played a kabuki actor in the ir new production of MADAMA BUTTERFLY. Jan 2010 he played Lepidus & Schoolmaster in ANTONY & CLEOPATRA at Maynardville's OPEN AIR THEATRE, Wynberg, & Apr 2010 told a story in Baxter StoryTelling Festival. For Baxter Danxce festival he created a new solo called: NOT NUREYEV, NOR NIJHINSKY, and in Sept portrayed Mr Pig in QAPHELA CAESAR at CT City Hall directed by Jay Pather for Gipca. Jan & Feb 2011 saw Mark playing Gremio in Roy Sergeant's production of THE TAMING OF THE SHREW at Maynardville Open Air Theatre, Wynberg. 
  Mark has always been active in Theatre-In-Education programmes for schools and NGOs. From 2004 until 2009 he was theCreative Director of Sound Track 4 Life, an HIV/ AIDS prevention &  life skills project serving W.Cape HighSchools with Road Shows & workshops.
  
  
Mark started teaching Tango on a regular basis in Cape Town in   1996 and nurtured the Cape Town tango community's growth, by holding regular Tango events & socials from 1999, weekly Milongas every Tuesday night from 2002 and organising workshopsMaster Classes with visiting teachers, like Eric Jorissen, Claartje Boissevain & Komala Vos from El Corte, Nijmegen, Netherlandsand others from Buenos Aires and Paris. Mark has travelled twice to Buenos Aires and has taught Tango in Jhb, Durban, London, and performed and staged TANGO PERFORMANCES at a number of International Tango Festivals at El Corte in Netherlands, most recently in July 2009. He combines theatre and Tango to explore the fascination of tango alone or with a group of tango dancers.He also trained Sean Bovim in  Tango in 2007 for his new work for Cape Town City Ballet called TANGO NIGHTS.
